I really hate writing about myself. I hate trying to sell myself here and convince you why you should hire me even more. Let’s get a coffee or a beer, have a conversation, and go from there. Here’s some things you may or may not want to know about me.
My superpower – being socially awkward
I’d much rather talk to a cat or dog at a party than someone I don’t know. Mostly because I’ve forgotten their name 3 seconds after being introduced and the thought of having to ask their name again makes me sweaty.
I’m introverted
This is probably related to my superpower somehow. I never want to be the center of attention. I like to be off to the side and observe. Which I think has been a good thing for my photography actually. It’s definitely the reason for my candid style, and more natural posing techniques.
I live with 5 women
Along with my fiancé Jen, we have 3 cats and a dog. All female. The first 2 cats we got, Penny and Winnie, turned out to be very much like us personality and appearance wise. Penny has orange hair and enjoys cuddles at all times. Penny = Jen. Winnie is a brown and grey tabby who is quiet and likes her alone time. Winnie = Me. Our dog Astro, who we were told was a male before we got her, is crazy at all times but can also be very cute and adorable. She uses this cuteness against us every chance she gets. Our newest pet, Peanut Butter (PB), we got from an adoption day at a brewery (well played). All we can tell about her is that she’s always starving and doesn’t care if she sleeps on your face.
Update - We have a son now!! Carter!
Update 2 - We have another son now!! Hunter!
My back
I have back issues, but it wasn’t caused by something cool like lifting a car off of anyone. I was at the gym doing deadlifts. Actually, I wasn’t even doing deadlifts yet, I picked up the unweighted bar and my lower back exploded. Lift with your legs people. I was bed ridden for 3 days and in the hospital on my birthday! So that was fun.
Youtube
I enjoy the Youtube. Every night before bed I have a pretty serious Youtube session. I’m starting to get worried I can’t fall asleep anymore without watching Youtube first. But I know I have to keep up with the latest in knife sharpening and Japanese woodworking techniques. (I don’t own a knife, or do any kind of woodworking)
My Niche
Every article I read and Youtube video I watch about being successful in photography always says you have to “find your niche”. Find the one thing in photography you’re good at / want to do and focus on that, or else you won’t be successful. I get it, you want to be known as “the wedding guy”, or “the best real estate photographer in town”, or “the guy that takes amazing photos of chickens”. But I want to be good at all of that, and more. I started out doing landscapes and nature photography for a long time. I’ve been doing more family sessions this year, which has been super fun. I did my first wedding, and have another couple booked. I’d love to get into pet portraiture, or real estate / interior design photography even though it’s apparently quite difficult to get into in Thunder Bay.
I guess I am starting to narrow it down. But if someone comes up to me and says, “Hey, I know you take amazing photos of chickens, but I have this cow here I’d like some photos of” of course I’m going to say yes!
If you’ve made it this far congratulations, you deserve some kind of award! Thanks for wanting to learn more about me. In all seriousness, I really do enjoy photography and would love to do as much work as I can. I’m always working on it and trying to learn more. If you want to work together, or have any questions, please use the form below to contact me. I’d love to help out!
Update - I have now done 28 weddings, and lots of family sessions! I think weddings and families are becoming my niche!
Thank You.
